Turtle Wax (car wax) is an excellent tile cleaner and refinisher. Rub well with a soft cloth, let stand for 10 minutes. Do not let it dry too thoroughly. Polish with a clean cloth, or better yet, buff with an electric buffer. Your tiles will sparkle like new.
Make a paste of baking soda and bleach and scrub with a small brush.
Also, before you start cleaning the bathroom walls, fill the tub with the hottest tap water available. Dirt loosened by steam will come off faster.
If the tile walls of your shower accumulate film and the grouting mildews, wash with a detergent and scrub brush, then apply a solution of 3 tablespoons liquid chlorine bleach to a quart of warm water. Keep surfaces wet with this solution for 5 minutes. Rinse and dry. After each shower, dry walls with a towel.
Clogged Shower Head
If your shower head is clogged from lime and mineral deposits, try boiling it in 1/2 cup white vinegar and 1 quart of water for 15 minutes or so. For plastic shower heads, soak in a hot vinegar and water solution.
Removing Decals
To remove decals, plastic picture hangers, adhesive backed paper from walls, drawers or shelves, set your hair dryer on hot and warm the corners. Leave the heat on the sticky surface as you pull and you won't need to scrape or break finger nails.
Floral appliques from the bathtub can be removed by soaking in hot water for 1/2 hour, then with a plastic spatula or putty knife (never use metal), loosen one corner and pull hard. Be careful not to scratch the surface of the tub. Warm vinegar or rubbing alcohol should remove any remaining sticky substance.
Mildew Removal from Shower Curtains
To prevent mildew, soak in a solution of salt water before hanging them for use.
Use baking soda to remove mildew from a small area.
For more extensive stains, wash in hot suds, followed by a rubbing with lemon juice. The washer can be used on a delicate cycle. Dryer set on fluff or a low setting can also be used. Check often to make sure the temperature is not set too high. Hang immediately to avoid wrinkles.
Excellent Cleaners
To save time and money while providing the best shine possible to your bathroom fixtures, use an old cloth with a slight amount of kerosene. Kerosene removes scum from the fixtures, including the outside of the toilet bowl. The odor will only remain for a few minutes.
Spray tiles and fixtures with laundry soil and stain remover liberally. Rub with cloth for a beautiful shine.
Use rubbing alcohol on a small pad of toilet tissue to clean bathroom fixtures, tiles and toilet seat. The bathroom is completely deodorized, sanitary and sweet-smelling.
Shower Stall Film
Rub lightly with a plain piece of dry fine steel wool (not the soap filled variety). Try a patch first to be sure it is not scratching your tile. If it is, you should use a finer piece of steel wool. As you scour the tile, you will see the scum coming right off. Wash down after the job is completed.
Shower Door Film
Spray vinegar on the shower door and let stand for a few minutes. Make a paste of equal parts of baking soda and salt. Using a damp sponge rub the paste over the door and then rinse well.
Wiping the shower door down with lemon oil furniture polish after cleaning will help prevent scum buildup. After cleaning, wipe the door with the lemon oil and let stand for a few minutes, them remove excess with a clean dry cloth.
Toilet Cleaners
Pour a 1/4 cup of baking soda into your toilet bowl and let it bubble for a few minutes.
Sprinkle a packet of an unsweetened Kool-Aid into the bowl and let sit for a few minutes.
Add a denture cleaning tablet to the toilet bowl, allow to dissolve before flushing.
Pour in a can of cola and wait for a few minutes before flushing.
Other Bathroom and Sink Cleaners
Lighter fluid will usually remove the most stubborn dark stain.
If you bathtub has yellowed, rub with a solution of salt and turpentine to restore the whiteness.
If your bathtub is discolored, use a mixture of peroxide and baking soda on the spots, let this dry and then wash it away.
Use worn out pantyhose to clean bathtub ring.
Clean your mirrors with air freshener and they will emit a nice fresh scent.
