Shave or pull out with tweezers some fuzz from the carpet. Roll into the shape of the burn. Using a good cement glue apply to the backing of the carpet and press the fuzz down into the burned spot. Cover with a piece of wax paper and place a heavy book on top. This will cause the glue to dry very slowly and will get the best results.
Sooty Footprint Removal
Sprinkle the sooty area with salt and after 1/2 hour vacuum.
Candle Wax Removal
Place a brown paper bag over the spot and place a hot iron over the bag. A few minutes and the wax will be absorbed by the paper bag. Repeat if necessary.
Chewing Gum Removal
Chill the gum by placing some ice cubes in a plastic bag and rub on the chewing gum until it freezes and hardens, then carefully scrape away with a knife.
Ball-Point Ink Mark Removal
Sponge with some sour milk. When milk is absorbed, apply again until ink disappears. Sour milk can be made by adding a few teaspoons of vinegar to fresh milk.
Spray hair spray liberally on ink mark. Let dry, then brush lightly with a solution of water and vinegar. Blot up excess.
Restoring Flattened Carpet
The flattened pile on your rugs can be raised by using a steam iron. Place your iron over the flattened spot with a good steam built up. Don't touch the carpet with the iron. Briskly brush.
General Stains
Mix up a sudsy solution of laundry detergent and water. Brush the suds into the stain vertically and horizontally with a soft brush. Blot dry. Repeat process if stain persists.
Shaving cream can also be used as a spot remover. No mixing to do and it is often more effective than water solutions.
Grease Stains
Sprinkle a generous amount of either baking soda or corn meal over the spots and brush lightly through the pile of the rug. Leave overnight and vacuum the next day.
Pet Spots
Rub with a solution of vinegar or lemon juice and warm sudsy water. Blot and repeat if necessary. Follow up by pouring club soda over the spot. Blot again. Put a dry white towel over the stain and put a heavy book on top of it. If the towel becomes soggy, replace with a clean towel.
Coffee or Coke Stains
Ice cubes will remove these stains from carpeting. Blot the spill immediately and then rub an ice cube over the spot and blot again removing excess water. Rub with a solution of vinegar, detergent and water.
Urine Odor
Sprinkle dry salt on the odor area and leave it overnight. Vacuum it the next day.
Carpet Freshener
Freshen your carpets with baking soda. Put the baking soda in a flour sifter and sift it onto the carpet. Leave it on for a few minutes, then vacuum. Baking soda is also good for your vacuum bag.
