Dampen a soft cloth with water. Squeeze it out. Put a dab of toothpaste on the cloth and buff away the white spots.
Milk stains can be removed from furniture by dipping a cloth in white vinegar, rubbing the stain and then washing with pure white bar soap, rinse and wipe dry.
Apply mayonnaise to the spot and rub in. Let stand for an hour and the wipe with clean soft cloth. Baby oil sometimes removes rings on dark wood and also works for marble.
Cover each spot with a generous amount of white petroleum jelly. Let it set for 24 hours and then rub into the wood. Remove the excess and then polish.
Water stains on a table can be removed with a paste of cold cigarette ashes and butter or margarine. Rub with the grain of the wood. Also works for heat marks on tables.
Wood Furniture Polish
Mix 1/3 cup of boiled linseed oil, vinegar and turpentine and shake well. Apply with a soft cloth and wipe completely dry. Wipe again with another soft dry cloth.
Polishing Leather
Prevent leather furniture from cracking by polishing regularly with a cream made of 1 part vinegar and 2 parts linseed oil.
Leather Burns
Small holes in leather can sometimes be fixed by melting the wax of a matching color crayon and dripping it into the hole and smoothing off before the wax cools.
Soiled Cotton Upholstery
Rub the soiled areas with art gum squares, that can be purchased at any stationery store.
Microfiber Furniture Cleaning
Sprinkle with a small amount of baking soda, and with a small brush try dry brushing it clean.
Lysol spray and baby wipes also work well.
For food stains hydrogen peroxide sprayed on the stain will foam the stain out with oxygen.
Alway test for colorfastness on a hidden spot.
Rust on Metal Furniture
Rubbing turpentine on the furniture should remove any rust.
Removing Scratches from Wood Furniture
Rub a dark brown crayon on mahogany pieces and a black crayon of black furniture. Buff the marks with a dry cloth. The crayon wax fills the scratch and it becomes unnoticeable.
Rub on some mayonnaise and let set for awhile, then wipe off with a soft cloth.
Teakwood scratches can be removed by rubbing gently with 0000 steel wool and applying equal amounts of linseed oil and turpentine and rubbed in well.
Minor mahogany scratches can be removed by covering each scratch with a generous amount of white petroleum jelly and let it remain for 24 hours. Rub into the wood. Remove excess and polish.
For deep scratches remove the meat from a fresh, unsalted walnut or pecan and break it in half. Rub with the broken side. This makes a terrific job of filling the scratch and restoring color.
Burns on Wood Furniture
Rub mayonnaise into the burn. Let set for awhile before wiping off with a soft cloth.
Ink Stains on Leather
Rub in cuticle remover.
Carved Wood Furniture Polishing
Use an old toothbrush dipped in furniture polish and brush lightly.
Wobbly Wood Table
If your table wobbles because of a short leg, apply a small amount of plastic wood and a piece of wax paper to the bottom of the leg and let dry. Trim it down with a sharp knife and smooth it off with sandpaper.
Moving Furniture
A skateboard can make furniture moving very easy. Just put the furniture on the skateboard and wheel away.
Mattress Freshener
Place fabric softener sheets under the mattress pad to keep your mattress fresh smelling.
Moth Ball Odor in Cedar Chest
Sand the inside of the cedar chest with coarse sandpaper followed by a sanding with fine sandpaper. This should restore the strong cedar odor which repels moths.
Time Saving Wood Furniture Dusting
Saturate 2 men's work gloves with lemon oil or furniture cream, put the gloves on and dust away. Works well for spindles on the stairs and furniture that has curved features.
Wood Furniture Polish Build-Up
Use a mixture of 1/4 cup vinegar and 1/2 cup water. Moisten a soft clean cloth with the solution. Dry off immediately with another soft cloth.
Wax Build-Up on Wood Furniture
To clean the wax build-up on furniture mix 1 teaspoon of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of turpentine and 1 quart of warm water. Dampen a clean cloth in the mixture and wring it out thoroughly. Rub down the furniture and then wipe with a clean dry cloth. Your furniture is now ready to wax using 1/3 cup boiled linseed oil, turpentine and vinegar. This mixture cannot be used on laminate or plastic coated furniture.
Alcohol Stains on Wood Furniture
Polish with olive oil and dry with a soft cloth.
Grease Stains
Pour salt on the stain immediately. The salt will absorb the grease and prevent staining.
Blood Stains
Cover the spot immediately with a paste of cornstarch and water. Rub and if possible place the object in the sun to dry. The sun will dry the blood out into the cornstarch. Brush off. Repeat the process if the stain is not completely gone.
To remove blood stains from a mattress, use 3% medical strength hydrogen peroxide. Pour some into the bottle cap and pour directly on the stain and the blood should disappear. This process may have to be repeated 2 or 3 times for stubborn stains.
